How to allow “Install unknown apps” on Android

To install an APK that doesn't come from Google Play — a beta from IPALinked, for instance — Android asks you to allow installs for the app doing the installing (usually your browser). It's a one-time, per-app switch.

Android 8 and newer (most devices)

  1. Open the downloaded APK — Android shows a blocked-install prompt;
  2. Tap Settings on the prompt;
  3. Toggle Allow from this source;
  4. Go back — installation continues.

Manual path: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps → pick Chrome (or your browser) → Allow.

Samsung (One UI)

Settings → Apps → ⋮ menu → Special access → Install unknown apps.

Xiaomi (MIUI/HyperOS)

Settings → Privacy protection → Special permissions → Install unknown apps.

Turning it back off

Flip the same toggle off after installing — good hygiene for shared devices.
